We want to be open and accessible to all visitors to ensure that the widest number of people can enjoy Dorchester’s history, our building, our collection and our displays. Arrival
The Museum is located in the Dorchester Abbey Guest House, a 15th-century building with uneven floors and steep steps to both entrances. The Museum occupies one small room, so physical access is challenging for those with mobility issues, and may not be possible for large pushchairs and wheelchairs.

We recognise that these constraints may restrict access and so we have created a video walk around our museum for you to view, which covers our main exhibits.
Touchscreen
Information about the Museum, Dorchester Abbey and Dorchester’s history can be found on the touchscreen inside the Abbey, which is wheelchair and mobility scooter accessible.
The Cloister Gallery in the Abbey, a display of worked stone, is also wheelchair and walker accessible.
Accessible Toilets
There are toilets in the courtyard behind the Museum, one of which is accessible. There is also an accessible toilet at the far end of the Cloister Gallery in Dorchester Abbey. Assistance, guide and companion dogs are always welcome, and a water bowl is provided daily for them in the courtyard of the adjoining Tea Room. We are working on ways to improve access, and our access policy is available below.
